Marketing in Leuven
Marketing agency for Leuven, in English
For spin-offs that sell to the world and businesses that live off a student city.

A university town with a global address book
Leuven is a city of about 105,000 residents and, during the academic year, around 60,000 students; one in five KU Leuven students comes from abroad. Around the university sit research institutes such as imec, the Haasrode research park and a long line of spin-offs that sell to hospitals, manufacturers and laboratories across the world. Many of them work in English.
This page is for that Leuven: a spin-off or tech company looking for customers, partners and staff, or a café, shop or service run in English that lives off the student city. It covers which channels work for which business, how to plan around the academic year, how to hire through your marketing and what an agency costs in Belgium.

A spin-off selling to the world
A spin-off's buyers search for a problem or a technology, in English, often from abroad, and they want proof: publications, references, certificates, a named contact. Student marketing does nothing here. What does:
- A page per application, written on the terms a buyer or researcher types. One page about everything you can do ranks for nothing. See SEO.
- Google Ads on specific termsA click on a technical term costs more than a click on 'coffee leuven', but a customer is worth far more. See Google Ads.
- LinkedIn with facesPosts by your engineers and researchers reach further than company announcements.
- A site that earns trustInvestors, hospitals and partners look at your site before they call. Clear claims, real people, the certificates you hold.
Hiring through your marketing
A growing spin-off spends as much effort on finding people as on finding customers. Leuven has the talent, but so do the companies next door. Three things help:
| What | Why it works | Language |
|---|---|---|
| A careers page per role family | candidates search for 'data scientist leuven' or 'process engineer', not for your company name | English, with Dutch for roles that work with local customers |
| Posts that show the work | a lab, a test bench, a team meeting tells a candidate more than a list of perks | the language your team speaks |
| A short film about the team | one shoot day serves the careers page, LinkedIn and job fairs for a year | subtitles in both languages |
Our corporate video work covers that kind of film.
A business living off the student city
If you run a café, a shop or a service for students, plan around the academic calendar. Mid-September brings new students; October to December builds habits; January and June are exam months; February brings a second wave of exchange students; July and August are quiet as most students leave. Spend where the students are and lower your budget in summer, when your customers are locals and visitors to summer events.
| Period | What students do | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-September | find their way, everything is new | be visible on Instagram and Google Maps with an offer for the first week |
| October to December | build habits | give them a reason to come back: a loyalty card, a fixed evening |
| January and June | exams | late opening, coffee, food to take away |
| July and August | most are gone | lower your budget, focus on locals |
Post in English and Dutch: one in five KU Leuven students is international, and so are many researchers and their families.
Working with Flemish customers and partners
Even an English-first company in Leuven deals with Dutch speakers: suppliers, local partners, Flemish candidates, sometimes customers. A few Dutch pages for those groups, written on Dutch terms, cost little and open doors. How languages sit together on one site is explained in multilingual website development.
What a first month looks like
- A term map. The searches your buyers or customers type, in English and Dutch, each with proof from Google.
- Your profile and site basics. A Google Business Profile with the right category, a site that loads fast and says clearly what you do and where.
- One page per application or service, written for the terms that matter most.
- A first campaign if you need leads now: Google Ads for a spin-off, Instagram for a student business.
- Measurement from day one: which page and which campaign brought a lead or a visit.
After that, the work is writing and measuring: more pages where the demand is, less budget where it is not.
What an agency costs in Belgium
Belgian agencies quote roughly 800 to 2,000 euros a month for SEO, 500 to 1,500 euros for managing Google Ads and 2,000 to 5,000 euros for full service, excluding VAT and ad spend; our guide to digital agency cost has the detail. We quote a fixed price after a first conversation, whether you run a spin-off or a cafe.
Questions we hear in Leuven
Does a spin-off need a Dutch website? For customers abroad, usually not. For hiring in Flanders and local partners, a few Dutch pages help.
Is TikTok worth it for a student business? If you can post three times a week, yes. If not, one reel a week on Instagram and a strong Google Maps profile bring more.
How far is VBS from Leuven? About 70 minutes by car from our office in Ghent, less by train. We come to you for a first meeting or a shoot.
Channels side by side
| Channel | Business for students | Spin-off or tech company |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram and TikTok | main channel, weekly reels in English and Dutch | for hiring and culture, not for sales |
| Google Business Profile | decisive: students choose on Google Maps | matters for visitors and candidates |
| SEO | pages on what you sell plus 'leuven' | pages per application, mostly in English |
| Google Ads | small budgets on your name and around the start of the year | specific technical terms with high value |
| rarely needed | main channel next to search |
Pick two channels per column to start with. Doing everything at once means doing everything halfway.
Mistakes we see in Leuven
- A spin-off on TikTok, absent from GoogleYour buyers search; they do not scroll.
- The same budget all year for a student businessIn August you pay for students who are not there.
- Only Dutch, or only EnglishEach language reaches a different group; decide which group matters most and start there.
- No reviewsStudents choose a place on Google Maps; the Google review link generator turns a review link into a QR code for your counter.
Leuven is about 70 minutes from our office in Ghent by car, and the train between the two cities runs often, so meeting in person is never far off.
For Business Centrum we built a site in four languages and wrote pages on the terms their clients search for, each language on its own terms. In five weeks they went from 13 to 1,593 non-brand search terms on Google's first page. For a Leuven company we bring the same method: terms first, one page per question, measured every week.
Terms first, one page per question: the result for Business Centrum
- impressions a day in Google for Business Centrum after five weeks, up from 220
- 10,200
- non-brand search terms on page one, up from 13
- 1,593
How we work with a Leuven company
For a spin-off we build pages per application, run search and Google Ads on the terms buyers use, and help you hire through LinkedIn and your careers page. For a student business we plan around the academic calendar and run reels and ads on Facebook and Instagram in English and Dutch.
Our office is in Ghent, about 70 minutes from Leuven by car and less by train; we come to you for a first meeting or a shoot day. More on social media management and on our marketing agency for Antwerp and Brussels if you also sell there.
