Your site, search and ads run by one team that writes for Flemish, French and English buyers.

A Flemish city that buys in English

Antwerp is Belgium's largest city and home to the second busiest port in Europe. A good share of the companies that run it are international: shipping lines, forwarders, chemical plants, diamond traders, tech firms with an English-speaking team. When those companies look for a marketing agency, many of them search in English, and Google knows it. Type 'marketing agency a' in Belgium and the first suggestion is Antwerp.

This page is for that buyer: a company in Antwerp, often run or staffed by people who do not read Dutch, that needs a website, search visibility or ads aimed at Belgian and international customers. It covers how the local market works, what agencies charge, which languages your marketing needs and what to put in the contract. It also says where VBS fits.

Three languages, one market

Antwerp is Flemish: the city, its permits and most of its small business customers speak Dutch. Your buyers may not. A port service company sells to shipping lines in English, to Walloon or French clients in French and to local hauliers in Dutch. Each group searches in its own language, so each needs pages written for its own search terms, not one page translated three times.

Who you sell toLanguage they search inWhat your site needs
Local Flemish businesses and householdsDutchDutch pages written on Dutch terms, a Google Business Profile in Dutch
International companies in the port and the cityEnglishEnglish pages on English terms, prices in euros with VAT shown clearly
Clients in Brussels and WalloniaFrenchFrench pages, written for French-speaking buyers
Buyers abroadEnglish, sometimes GermanEnglish first, with country-specific pages where volume justifies it

How those versions sit on one site without competing with each other is a technical job: one domain, a folder per language and hreflang tags so Google shows the right version. We explain it in full on our page about multilingual website development.

How agencies in Antwerp work

You will meet three kinds of agency. A large agency with a team per discipline suits a brand with a national budget and several campaigns at once; expect more meetings and a longer start. A freelancer suits a company that knows which channel it is missing, for example only Google Ads, and can manage the rest itself. An agency that builds the site and runs search and ads in the same team suits a company whose website, rankings and ads do not connect: ads that land on a slow page, a contact form nobody measures, a site that is not found for the services it sells.

The comparison above shows the trade-offs. If you are new to Belgium, two local habits are worth knowing. Most Belgian agencies quote per project or per month after a first meeting rather than publishing a price list. And a Belgian invoice shows 21 percent VAT, which a VAT-registered company recovers; always compare quotes excluding VAT.

If you already know which channel you need, we wrote a page per discipline for Antwerp: an SEO agency in Antwerp, a social media agency in Antwerp and an advertising agency in Antwerp for video and campaigns. If you start with the website, see our website design service; if you start with the map pack, local SEO.

What marketing costs in Antwerp

Antwerp agencies charge roughly what agencies in the rest of Flanders charge. These are the ranges Belgian agencies quote for a small or medium business, in euros, excluding VAT and excluding your ad spend:

ServicePer monthAd spend on top?
SEO: technical work, pages on search terms, reporting800 to 2,000no
Google Ads management500 to 1,500yes, paid to Google
Social media managementdepends on how much contentyes, if you advertise
Full service across channels2,000 to 5,000yes

The longer version, with project prices and the pricing models agencies use, is in our guide to digital agency cost. VBS does not sell hours or packages from a list: after a first conversation you get a fixed price for what needs to be built and run. A first website starts at 1,500 euros.

Clicks in Antwerp tend to cost more than in smaller cities, because companies from the whole province and from Brussels bid on the same terms. If you plan to advertise, read Google Ads cost before you set a budget.

Port, logistics and transport

Much of Antwerp's economy moves around the port: forwarding, transport, warehousing, customs, maintenance. For these companies marketing is less about reach and more about trust and recruitment: shippers want to see that you deliver, drivers want to see what working for you is like. The line between marketing and software is thin there.

VBS built a platform for fuel, fleet and planning that two transport companies run on: DA Logistics, where some thirty drivers and 34 vehicles work on it every day, and Zuco Logistics, which went live on the same core in an afternoon. Neither is based in Antwerp, but the work is what an Antwerp logistics company needs: a site that speaks to drivers and customers, and a system behind it that keeps the promise. More on transport software.

What to put in the contract

  1. Ownership. Your domain, website, Google Business Profile, ad accounts and Search Console are registered in your company's name. The agency gets access, not ownership.
  2. What you see each month. Leads, calls and quotes per channel, not only impressions. Agree how they are measured before the first euro is spent.
  3. Notice period. One to three months is normal in Belgium; a twelve-month lock-in without an exit is not.
  4. Language of the work. If your team works in English, ask for reports, meetings and the contract in English. Many Flemish agencies can, but not all do it by default.

Mistakes we see with international companies in Antwerp

  • An English site and nothing elseFine for international buyers, invisible to the Flemish customers and staff you also need. Add Dutch pages for what you sell locally.
  • A Dutch site machine-translated into EnglishSearch terms differ by language. 'Marketing agency Antwerp' and its Dutch equivalent are different searches with different competitors.
  • Targeting all of BelgiumA service company in the port rarely needs clicks from the coast. Target the areas where your customers actually are.
  • No Business ProfileThe first thing many buyers see is the map pack. Set it up in the right category; our guide on how to create a Google Business Profile walks through it.

For Business Centrum, a payroll and HR office in Ghent, we built a site in four languages, wrote guides and city pages on the terms employers search for, and set up measurement without cookies. In five weeks they went from 13 to 1,593 non-brand search terms on the first page of Google. The same approach, search terms first and one page per question, is what we bring to a company in Antwerp.

One team from search term to lead

At VBS the team that builds your site also runs your search and ads. When a campaign brings few leads, we change the landing page ourselves instead of filing a ticket with another agency.

We work from our office on the Sint-Baafsplein in Ghent, about 50 minutes by car from central Antwerp, and in English when your team does. A first meeting can be at your office, at ours or online.

  • Search terms, pages and profile in one plan
  • Google Ads and Meta on the same measurement
  • Domain, site and accounts in your name

Local SEO

How VBS helps you with this

We get you found in your own town and region: a page for every town that earns one, a Google profile in order, and the terms locals really type.

  • Town and region pages with their own content, never a copy with a new place name
  • Your Google Business Profile and reviews
  • Tracking per search term and per town

How we approach it is on our page about Local SEO.
