Web design Flanders
Web design in Flanders, by city and province
Every city has its own customers, languages and grants. Find yours here, in English.

The same site does not work everywhere
Web design in Flanders sounds like one thing, but a site for a guesthouse in Bruges, a manufacturer in Kortrijk, a spin-off in Leuven and a hair salon in Genk have little in common. One sells to tourists in four languages, the next to French buyers, the third recruits internationally, the fourth serves customers who speak Turkish at home. What a site has to do depends more on the city and its customers than on the template.
So we wrote a page of its own per city and per province, with what makes that city different: its companies, its languages, the grants that run there and how far it is from our office on the Sint-Baafsplein in Ghent. This page, written for businesses that work in English, lists them all by province, with the one fact that gives each city its own site. Start with your city, or with your province if your city is not there yet.

West Flanders: coast, centre and the French border
A province with three economies: tourism at the coast, manufacturers in the centre and export to France in the south. The overview is on web design in West Flanders.

Running a business in Flanders in English
Flanders is Dutch-speaking, and most of your customers will search, call and buy in Dutch. Brussels is officially bilingual, French and Dutch, and English is everywhere in its business life. If you moved here, or your company works in English, four questions come up in every city.
| Question | Short answer | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Must my site be in Dutch? | no law requires it for a private business, but local buyers search in Dutch | multilingual website development |
| What must every Belgian site show? | company name, address, company number and email | company number on your website |
| Which language for staff documents? | Dutch in Flanders, under the Flemish language decree | your social secretariat |
| Do I need a cookie banner? | only for cookies that are not strictly needed, such as ads and analytics | do I need a cookie banner |
The differences between the Dutch of Flanders and of the Netherlands matter too: a site written in the Netherlands reads foreign to a Fleming. More in Dutch vs Flemish.
Custom software, city by city too
- AntwerpPlatforms for transport, logistics and construction around the port, with DA Logistics and Zuco as proof; see software development in Antwerp.
- KortrijkWork orders, planning and quotes for manufacturers in Kortrijk and Waregem; see software company in Kortrijk.
- LeuvenA first platform or client portal for spin-offs, with security from day one; see software development in Leuven.
- GhentFrom a spreadsheet to a platform of your own, close to our office; see software development in Ghent.
What the cities give entrepreneurs
No Flemish city pays for a website directly. Where there is money, it goes to setting up, a shop front or starting out, and an opening almost always needs a new site too. Only Brussels has a grant that can pay for a website.
| City | What runs | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| Brussels | digitalisation grant, 25 to 70 percent, up to 10,000 euros | also the development or upgrade of your website |
| Turnhout | 80 percent, up to 10,000 euros per application | shop front, retail space, living above the shop |
| Kortrijk | attraction grant, 2,500 to 10,000 euros | filling an empty shop unit |
| Roeselare | 10,000 euros, 5,000 for hospitality, and a restyling grant | a new business in the centre |
| Bruges | up to 10,000 euros, with extra for empty premises | opening in the city centre or a neighbourhood |
| Sint-Niklaas | starter grant up to 10,000 euros | a new business in the focus area |
| Ninove | 500 euros plus 3,000 or 1,500 euros | a new business in the shopping centre |
| Lommel | Lommel loont, up to 8,000 euros, until the end of 2026 | starters in the centre |
| Leuven | starter grant of 2,500 euros, now suspended | starters, also for a website |
| Ghent | starter contract and shop premises grant scrapped on 31 December 2025 | no longer |
Check every grant with the city itself before you sign: rules change, and the moment of applying counts. The Flemish SME wallet (kmo-portefeuille) stops on 1 January 2027; what remains is in Flanders digitalisation grants and website grants in Belgium.
What is the same everywhere
The city decides what your site has to do. The way we build is the same everywhere.
- A fixed price per projectA custom site starts at 1,500 euros with us. After a first conversation you get a fixed price, with no hours afterwards. If you want to do the sum yourself first, use the website cost calculator.
- A page per client questionNot a list of services on one page, but a page per service with its own title. Across our clients we count more than 1,700 such pages today.
- Languages where they are neededDutch, French, English and Turkish for Business Centrum and two other clients; English and Dutch for Villa Lidia; four languages for No.4 Lange Ast. How we set up languages is on multilingual website development.
- Being found locallyA Google profile that is right, projects with place and date, reviews that keep coming; see local SEO.
For Business Centrum that approach took the site from 220 to 10,200 impressions a day in five weeks.
An agency in your city, or an agency at a distance
If you live in Hasselt or Bruges, you can also pick a web designer round the corner. That has advantages: they know the street, you can drop in. An agency at a distance has others: a team that builds sites, calculators and software, and work you can check. Look at three things, wherever the agency is.
- Work you can openAsk for sites that are live, not designs in a PDF. Check them on your phone.
- A price that is fixedA quote with what is in, what is not, and what it costs each year. How to read one is in compare website quotes.
- OwnershipThe domain in your name, the files and the copy yours, also if you change agency later.
In doubt between a freelancer and an agency? Read freelancer or agency; what a web designer actually does is in what does a web designer do.
Why a page per city, and not a list
Google punishes sites that make the same page twenty times with only another place name in it. Such a page helps no reader, and Google knows it. So we write a page per city with what is really going on there: the companies, the languages of the customers, the city's grants and the drive from our office. A baker in Mechelen reads something different from a manufacturer in Kortrijk, and you should see that on the page. We use the same approach for the clients we help: no template with their city in it, but a page per city with facts a visitor from that city recognises.
A city still missing here
We build the site just as thoroughly there. What is going on in your city, we look up before the first conversation.
Remote and on site
In East Flanders and the north of West Flanders we come over for the first meeting; in Limburg and the Campine we mostly work remotely and come for a day of photos. Everywhere you see your site grow on a test address and give comments per page, in English or Dutch. How we build a site is at website design; what it costs, in website cost.
