Google Ads costs whatever budget you set, but a Belgian agency advises at least 1,000 euros a month in clicks for a local business, and 2,000 to 5,000 euros for national, multilingual or B2B campaigns. Management by an agency comes on top. Google asks no fixed amount: you choose your bid and budget, you pay per click, and a click in Belgium costs between 0.30 and 8 euros depending on your sector, in that agency's campaigns. In the United States, LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks put the average click at 5.42 dollars. To reach decision-makers by role, LinkedIn costs more per click; see LinkedIn ads cost.

How much you need, you work out backwards from the number of leads you want. This guide does that for five kinds of business, explains how Google spends your budget, what management costs, and what to set up before your first euro goes to Google. To plug in your own numbers straight away, use the Google Ads budget calculator.

A click costs what it takes to beat the advertiser just below you. Google calls that your Ad Rank: your bid, the quality of your ad and landing page, competition in that auction, and the context of the search, such as location, device and time. You often pay less than your maximum bid, and never more, unless you let Google bid automatically.

European click prices by sector are rarely published. A Belgian agency shares the ranges from its own campaigns of 2024 to 2026; they sit below next to LocaliQ's 2026 averages for the United States. How to set up a first campaign so that budget does not leak away is covered in how to set up Google Ads.

SectorBelgium, range per clickUS, average per clickUS, cost per lead
Online store and retail0.30 to 1.50 euros4.14 dollars (collectibles and gifts)not published
Hospitality and local0.50 to 2.00 euros2.05 dollars (restaurants)30.57 dollars
Medical1.00 to 4.00 euros8.00 dollars (dentists)72.97 dollars
B2B and services1.50 to 5.00 euros5.87 dollars (business services)93.69 dollars
Construction and renovation1.50 to 5.00 euros8.33 dollars (home and home improvement)90.92 dollars
Legal and financial3.00 to 8.00 euros9.87 dollars (attorneys), 3.39 dollars (finance)131.63 and 74.44 dollars

Use these ranges to budget, not to bid. Your own click price shows in Google's Keyword Planner, for your terms and your region; it needs an account with billing details. Larger markets with heavier competition per term, such as the US, sit higher: treat the US column as a ceiling, not an expectation, and check your own market in Keyword Planner.

Working back from leads to budget

Ten leads a month

  3. × 2.50500euros a month
  4. ÷ 30.416.45euros a day

Enough for Google to bid on a target cost

  1. 30conversions in 30 days
  2. ÷ 5%600clicks
  3. × 2.501,500euros a month
  4. ÷ 30.449.34euros a day

Our own worked example: 5 percent of visitors ask for a quote and a click costs 2.50 euros. Management comes on top.

The minimum Google needs to learn

Google Ads learns from conversions: a submitted form, a call, a sale. If you want Google to bid automatically on a target cost per lead (target CPA), Google recommends at least 30 conversions in the last 30 days. For bidding on return (target ROAS) in Search and Shopping it is at least 15. After a big change a campaign learns for up to seven days, and results can take one or two conversion cycles to settle.

That sets a floor that has nothing to do with your wishes. At a 5 percent conversion rate, 30 conversions are 600 clicks; at 2.50 euros a click that is 1,500 euros a month. If that is too much, bid manually on a few terms with strong buying intent, and measure first whether they bring leads.

How Google spends your budget

  • Daily budget, monthly capOn a busy day Google may spend up to twice your average daily budget. Over a month never more than 30.4 times the daily budget. If you think in months, divide your monthly budget by 30.4.
  • No fixed minimumAsked about a minimum bid, Google answers that you choose: what a click is worth to you, and a budget you are comfortable with.
  • BillingWith automatic payments Google charges 30 days after the previous payment, or earlier when your costs reach a threshold.
  • VAT in the EUAccounts in Belgium and other EU countries are served by Google Ireland. For a business account Google adds no VAT; you self-assess it in your own VAT return under the reverse charge.
  • Automated campaignsGoogle moves more work into campaigns that pick search terms and copy themselves. What that changes is in Dynamic Search Ads becomes AI Max. More automation does not mean a smaller budget: the learning floor stays.

Management is a separate bill

What you pay Google (the media budget) and what you pay an agency or freelancer (management) are two invoices. One Belgian agency publishes management from 2,795 euros a month for ads only; others give no price and charge in one of three ways.

  • A fixed monthly feePredictable. Ask what is in it: new ads, negative keywords, landing pages, a report.
  • A share of the media budgetGrows with your budget. Whoever manages it then gains when you spend more, so keep an eye on that.
  • A mix of bothA fixed part plus a percentage above a set budget.
  • Doing it yourselfCosts time instead of money. Set up conversion tracking first: without it you steer blind.

Five situations worked out

Five worked examples of our own. The click price sits inside the Belgian range for each sector; the conversion rate is our assumption, to replace with your own figure once you have it. Amounts before VAT, management not included.

Situation and goal per monthConversion and clickClicksPer month, eurosPer day, euros
Contractor in one region, 10 quote requests5% at 2.50 euros20050016.45
Restaurant, 40 bookings8% at 1.00 euro50050016.45
B2B service, 8 sales calls4% at 4.00 euros20080026.32
Law firm, 6 new cases5% at 6.00 euros12072023.68
Online store, 100 orders2% at 0.80 euros5,0004,000131.58

Three lessons. An online store needs many clicks, because an order takes more visitors than a quote request; what counts there is return per euro, which you check with the ROAS calculator. A law firm pays the most per click, but a case is worth a lot. And with the budgets of the contractor, restaurant or law firm, nobody reaches 30 conversions for automated bidding: they start manually, on a few strong terms.

Worked example step by step: the contractor

  1. Ten requests at 5 percent are 200 clicks.
  2. 200 clicks at 2.50 euros are 500 euros a month.
  3. Divided by 30.4, that is a daily budget of 16.45 euros.
  4. To let Google bid on a cost per lead, he needs 30 conversions a month: 1,500 euros.
  5. If an agency manages it, that invoice comes on top.

Turn the lead into work: if a job earns 2,000 euros in margin and one in three quotes is won, ten requests earn far more than 500 euros of clicks. How Google Ads works for a business with a fixed service area is explained in how does Google Ads work for local businesses. What your whole marketing budget can be, work out with the marketing budget calculator.

What the click price leaves out

  • Management, see above.
  • A landing page that matches the ad. An ad about bathroom renovation that lands on your home page wastes clicks. A page per service is a one-off cost; see landing page design.
  • Conversion tracking that works after consent. In the EU you need the visitor's consent before most tracking, and since the changes to Consent Mode your banner must pass on what the visitor chose. Whether you need one is in do I need a cookie banner.
  • Your own time to follow up leads, ideally the same day.
  • Choose Google Adswhen people already search for what you sell and you need leads now. You pay as long as you advertise.
  • Choose SEOwhen you want to be found without a click price a year from now. It costs work up front; what it costs is in how much does SEO cost.
  • Choose Metawhen you show something people do not search for yet: a new product, an event, a vacancy. What that costs is in Facebook ads cost.

When Google Ads does not pay off (yet)

  • Nobody searches for itIf you sell something new without a search term, there is no auction to win. Show it on Meta or in your network first.
  • Your site does not convertIf your page is slow on a phone or has no clear call to action, you pay for visitors who leave. Test first with the website speed test.
  • You cannot handle the demandA campaign that brings more leads than you can follow up costs money and goodwill. Start smaller.

Before your first euro goes to Google

  • Track enquiries, calls and sales as conversions, and test that tracking works.
  • Look up your terms and their click price in Keyword Planner, for your region.
  • Set your location to the region where you really work.
  • Add negative keywords such as free, jobs and DIY.
  • Send every ad to the page of that service.
  • Choose a daily budget you can keep for a month, and judge after that month, not after three days.
  • Keep the account in your company's name, even if an agency manages it.

What Google Ads costs, in short

How much does Google Ads cost per click?

In Belgium between about 0.30 euros for online stores and 8 euros for legal and financial terms, in one Belgian agency's campaigns. The US average in 2026 is 5.42 dollars. You often pay less than your maximum bid.

What is a good Google Ads budget for a small business?

Work back from leads. A Belgian agency advises at least 1,000 euros a month for a local business; in our own worked examples a local service needs 500 to 800 euros of clicks for its first leads. To let Google bid automatically, plan for enough budget to reach 30 conversions a month.

Is there a minimum budget for Google Ads?

Google sets no fixed amount, but for automated bidding on a target cost per lead it recommends at least 30 conversions in 30 days. In practice that sets your minimum.

Can I advertise with 10 euros a day?

Yes, that is about 304 euros a month. At 2.50 euros a click that is roughly 120 clicks: enough to test a few strong terms, too little for automated bidding.

Does Google charge VAT on ads in the EU?

Not on a business account: Google Ireland invoices without VAT and you self-assess it under the reverse charge in your own country.

What does Google Ads management cost?

One Belgian agency publishes from 2,795 euros a month for ads only; most give no price and charge a fixed fee, a share of the budget or a mix.

How VBS helps you with your Google Ads budget

We work backwards first, with your figures: what a customer is worth, how many leads you want, what a click costs in your market. Only then do you pick a budget. Then we set up what makes the money work: a landing page per service, conversion tracking that respects consent, and an account in your name, so the data stays yours.

You can see that landing work at Park & Wash, a car detailer in Ghent: one page with two routes to an enquiry and a pixel that only measures after consent. What we do for advertisers is on Google Ads. To find out which budget is realistic for your business, book a call.
