The right Odoo alternative depends on what your company does and why Odoo did not fit. A company of fifty or more on Microsoft 365 usually looks at Dynamics 365 Business Central. Teams that want open source without per-user licences look at ERPNext. A trading company in the Benelux with an accountant on Exact looks at Exact Online, and a service business that only needs quotes, projects and invoices looks at Teamleader Focus. If your process fits no package, a tailored platform is the fifth route.
This page puts those options side by side with their October 2026 prices, works out a year of licences for a company of 15 people and says when Odoo is still the best choice. We are none of these vendors and sell no licences; we build custom software, so on that last option we are not neutral. What an ERP is, see ERP; how it differs from a CRM, CRM vs ERP.
Why companies look for an Odoo alternative
Odoo is rarely the problem on price. The Belgian vendor gives a lot for little licence money: one app is free, and the Standard plan costs 19.90 euro per user per month billed yearly. Companies that still walk away tend to name one of three reasons:
- It feels heavyOdoo is a library of apps sharing one database. That is its strength, but a team that only needs quotes and invoices also sees menus for inventory, manufacturing and HR, and every app wants configuring.
- The implementation costs more than the licencesOdoo's own Success Packs run from 4 consultant hours for 587.06 euro to 200 hours for 19,800 euro, with 15 percent off the first pack for new customers. Larger companies work with a partner who bills by the day.
- Customising pulls everything alongYour own modules need the Custom plan (35.90 euro per user per month billed yearly) and hosting on Odoo.sh or your own server. Odoo charges a monthly fee to maintain that extra code, and each new Odoo version can break it.
Then there is the discount. Odoo's Standard and Custom prices hold for 12 months, for the users you first order. After that you pay 24.90 and 44.90 euro billed yearly. We add it up for companies of 5, 15 and 40 people in our Odoo pricing guide.
| Odoo, per user per month | First 12 months, billed yearly | After, billed yearly | After, billed monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| One app | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Standard | 19.90 | 24.90 | 31.10 |
| Custom | 35.90 | 44.90 | 56.90 |
| Light user, through an adviser | 7.90 | 7.90 | 7.90 |
A light user mostly reads and approves; Odoo charges 7.90 euro for one but sets that licence up through an adviser. External users, such as customers in a portal, pay nothing. Coaching comes on top: a Success Pack is a one-off.
First check: can Odoo get smaller?
Before you switch: Odoo lets you start with one app, free, for as many users as you like. If ten apps at once overwhelmed your team, you can restart with only the CRM or only invoicing. Odoo Community, the open-source edition, has no licence fee, but it does need hosting and someone to maintain it.
And if the implementation is what put you off, another ERP will often show you the same bill under another name. Any system that runs your stock, prices, user rights and accounts needs someone to set it up. An alternative mostly wins on focus: fewer screens, or a package that already knows your sector. Robaws, for example, is built for construction, installation and roofing firms, with sites for Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Ireland.

- The alternativeExact Online Trade: from 269 euro per month, with the first user and accounting included.

- Rules no package knows
- OdooYour own modules on Odoo.sh or your own server, maintained through every new version.
- The alternativeA tailored platform: a price for the build, then hosting and further development, no fee per user.
On licence per user, Odoo is rarely the expensive one. The alternatives win on focus: fewer screens for teams that need only part of Odoo, or a package that already knows the rules of your sector.
A year of licences for 15 people
Our own worked example, billed yearly, without implementation. In the first four rows everyone is a full user; the last two count five full users and ten who only read and approve.
| Package | How it adds up | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odoo Standard, year one | 15 x 19.90 | 298.50 | 3,582 |
| Odoo Standard, from year two | 15 x 24.90 | 373.50 | 4,482 |
| Teamleader Focus GROW | 5 x 33 plus 10 x 16.50, half price from the sixth user | 330 | 3,960 |
| Business Central Essentials | 15 x 69.30 | 1,039.50 | 12,474 |
| Odoo Standard, year one, with light users | 5 x 19.90 plus 10 x 7.90 | 178.50 | 2,142 |
| Business Central, with Team Members | 5 x 69.30 plus 10 x 6.90 | 415.50 | 4,986 |
Exact Online and ERPNext are not in the table because neither prices per user. Exact Online Trade Essentials costs 269 euro a month with the first user and accounting included; ERPNext on Frappe Cloud is priced per site. Ask both for a price for your whole team before you compare.
The licence says little about the total. Business Central costs more per user but carries full accounting; with Odoo you pay that in implementation hours. Ask every vendor for a year-one price with everything in: licences, setup, import and training.
How to move away from Odoo
- Download a full backup of your database in Odoo Online. Odoo itself says you remain the owner of your data.
- Choose what moves: customers, products, open invoices, one or two years of history. Not everything has to.
- Have fields mapped and cleaned for import into the new package, and test on a copy.
- Pick a moment: the start of a financial year or quarter keeps the books simple. Agree it with your accountant.
- Set up e-invoicing again. In Belgium structured e-invoices are mandatory between businesses since 2026; see e-invoicing in Belgium and check registration with the Peppol check.
When Odoo remains the best choice
Odoo stays the strongest choice if you want sales, stock, purchasing, online store and accounting on the same data, and want to switch on apps one by one as you grow. It also wins when licence cost per user weighs heavily and someone in-house wants to manage the package: with light users for people who only read, the bill stays low. And it stands or falls with a partner who knows your sector and keeps the setup small. Find one, and switching is rarely needed.
Leaving Odoo, briefly
Is there a free alternative to Odoo?
Odoo itself has a free single app with unlimited users and an open-source edition, Odoo Community. ERPNext is open source too and prices its hosting per site, not per user. Free software still needs someone to set it up and maintain it.
Is Business Central better than Odoo?
Not better, different. Business Central costs more per user but sits inside the Microsoft world many larger companies already run on. Odoo covers more apps for less licence money, including website and webshop.
Why is an Odoo implementation so expensive?
Because every ERP has to be configured: products, prices, rights, stock and accounts. Odoo sells that work in Success Packs of 4 to 200 hours. With another ERP you pay for those hours too.
Do I lose my data if I switch?
No. On Odoo Online you can download a backup of your database at any time, and Odoo states that you remain the owner of your data. Moving it into another system is still work: mapping fields, cleaning up and checking.
