Web design in Genk

A site that speaks to your customers in the language they speak at home, and to you in English.

Web design in Genk in Turkish: the Turkish version of business-centrum.be on a phone, a site we built in four languages

Genk speaks more than one language

Web design in Genk means building for a city where about 100 nationalities live together. In the twentieth century the coal mines drew workers from Italy, Turkey, Greece, Spain and Morocco, and their children and grandchildren still live there today. Genk has 68,101 residents. A baker in Winterslag, a hairdresser in Waterschei or a lawyer in the centre has customers who speak Dutch at work and Turkish or Italian at the table.

That makes Genk a natural place for business owners who work in English too: engineers and managers at the industrial and logistics sites, international staff, newcomers who start a business of their own. This page is written for them. For a Genk business a second language is not a matter of image. It can be the difference between a customer who calls and one who never finds you, because they searched in their own language. At the end of 2025, 6,407 companies had their seat in Genk, and 683 started in 2025.

Companies in Genk, end of 2025NumberWhere more languages help most
Professional and technical services1,123lawyers, accountants, practices
Retail and car repair1,067shops, garages, wholesale
Construction959contractors with customers from the communities
Other services568hairdressers, beauty salons, repairers
Hospitality453restaurants, bakeries, cafés
Administrative services402staffing agencies, cleaning

'Other services' holds many businesses that work mostly by word of mouth. For them a findable site in two languages is often the first thing they do online.

Advice for a shop, practice or restaurant in Genk. Only translate what you can also answer on the phone in that language.

When a second language pays off

  • Choose a Turkish or Italian version ifa large share of your customers speak that language at home, and you or your staff can answer in it. A translated site with a phone that only answers in Dutch disappoints.
  • Choose a short version ifyou mostly want to be found: offer, prices, hours, address and a way to reach you. That is enough for people searching in Turkish or Italian.
  • Stay with Dutch ifyour customers come from all over Limburg and have no preference for a language. Put the money into a page per service instead.
  • Choose English ifyou serve companies on Genk-Zuid or the new logistics campus, or hire staff from outside Belgium.

Each language is its own version, with its own titles and its own search terms. A Turkish customer does not search on the translation of 'boekhouder genk' (accountant), but on the word they use. How to link those versions, with hreflang, and how to maintain them without doing everything twice is on our page about multilingual website development.

If you run the business in English yourself

If you are the newcomer, the language question has two sides: your customers' languages and your own. You can brief, approve and run your site in English; your customers still mostly read Dutch.

PartLanguageWhy
Your main pagesDutchmost people in Genk and Limburg search in Dutch
Pages for your largest community of customersTurkish, Italian or another home languagethey search in their own words
Pages for international clients and staffEnglishcompanies on Genk-Zuid, expats, recruits from abroad
Company details, prices, privacyevery language you publishthe same Belgian rules apply in each

Every Belgian business site shows company name, address, company number and email (company number on your website), prices for consumers include VAT, and marketing cookies need consent (do I need a cookie banner). Documents for your staff in Flanders are in Dutch under the Flemish language decree; you may add a translation.

Our sites in Turkish

We built sites in Dutch, French, English and Turkish for three firms in Ghent: Business Centrum, a payroll office, an accounting firm and a law firm. Someone who would rather read about pay, taxes or a contract in Turkish finds every service in their language there. Every Turkish page has its own address, its own titles and its own search terms.

For Business Centrum the site in four languages brought 46 times as many impressions in Google within five weeks, from 220 to 10,200 a day. Those three firms are in Ghent, not Genk, and we say so. But an accountant, lawyer or hairdresser in Genk with the same customers asks exactly that. The cases are on Business Centrum, the accounting firm and the law firm.

Words your customers really type

A word-for-word translation often misses how people search. A few examples of how a search runs differently in another language:

In DutchHow your customer searches in their languageWhat that means for your page
boekhouder (accountant)often the Turkish or Italian job title, or 'accountant'put the word your customer uses in your title
kapsalon dames (women's salon)a term for the treatment, not for the salona page per treatment in that language
rijschool (driving school)the name of the licence or the lessonprices per package, in every language

So do not have your translator only translate copy, but also look up what customers type in that language. That is where a second language in Genk wins most.

Genk works, and builds

Genk is also a city of industry and logistics. Genk-Zuid is the largest industrial estate in Limburg, and on the former Ford site the first spade went into the ground in May 2026 for a logistics campus. If you work or deliver there, you need another site than a shop in the centre: a page per service, references, a quote form, and often an English version for buyers and staff. What a company site must contain is on small business website; for contractors on website for contractors.

Support from the city

Genk gives a grant for filling and improving shop units, hospitality premises and neighbourhood shops: 50 percent of the costs, up to 10,000 euros. The scheme ends in 2026, so if you want to fill or renovate premises, check with the city now what is still possible. The grant pays for your premises, not your site, but whoever opens or renews needs both. For the digital side, look to Flanders; the overview is in Flanders digitalisation grants.

What a two-language Genk site costs

A Genk business usually pays 500 to 1,500 euros on the market for a single page, and 2,000 to 6,000 euros for a site with a page per service, excluding VAT. The Turkish or Italian version is mostly translation plus its own titles, forms and confirmation emails; keep it as a separate line in your budget. With us a custom site starts from 1,500 euros, and the project price is fixed after the first meeting. In the website cost calculator you see what an extra language adds; why prices vary so much is in website cost.

From Ghent to Genk

Genk is 149 kilometres from the Sint-Baafsplein, a good hour and a half by car. So most of it runs by video and a test address where you comment per page, in English or Dutch; for pictures of your business we plan a day in Genk. How we build a site is at website design; how to be found in your own neighbourhood at local SEO. The rest of the province is in web design in Limburg, the neighbouring city in web design in Hasselt.

Genk questions about a multilingual site

Does a business in Genk need a multilingual website?

Not every business, but many do. If a large share of your customers speak Turkish, Italian or another language at home, and you can answer in that language, a version in it brings customers you would otherwise miss.

Do I have to translate the whole site?

No. Translate your offer, prices, hours, address and booking form fully. A story about your business can be shorter, and a blog is better left in Dutch if you do not keep it up in every language.

Who translates my site?

A professional translator, or someone who knows the language and your trade. Always have the translation read by someone who knows your customers: they know which words people really use.

I do not speak Dutch. Can my site still work in Genk?

Yes. You work with us in English and approve each page with an English version beside it; we write the Dutch and, where you need them, the other language versions.

Is there a grant for a website in Genk?

Not directly. Genk supports filling and improving shop units with 50 percent, up to 10,000 euros, under a scheme that ends in 2026.
