Web design in Turnhout after a renovation: a new house by SN Group, a construction company for which we built the site

Renewing your shop front with the city's grant? Have your site renewed with it.

Turnhout pays for the front

Web design in Turnhout often coincides with another renovation: that of your shop.

Turnhout has the most generous grant for shop premises we came across in Flanders: 80 percent of the costs, up to 10,000 euros per application, for the front, the shop space and living above the shop, under rules that run from 2026 to 2031. Turnhout has 48,490 residents and is the capital of the Campine, the city of Cartamundi, where playing cards have been made since 1826, and of companies such as Soudal and Miko. Those groups bring managers and specialists from abroad, and the Dutch border brings customers from North Brabant. This page is written for business owners in Turnhout who work in English, from a newcomer with a shop in the centre to a supplier of the big industrial names. It says what has to change online when you renew your business, what a site costs and how to reach Dutch and international customers too.

WhatHow muchFor what
Front80 percent, up to 10,000 euros per applicationa new or renovated shop front
Shop space80 percent, up to 10,000 euros per applicationfitting out the shop space
Living above the shop80 percent, up to 10,000 euros per applicationmaking the upper floor habitable again

The rules run from 2026 to 2031 and set which streets and units qualify. Read them on turnhout.be and apply before you start the works; applying for a grant for works already done usually does not succeed. The rules are in Dutch; if you do not read it, the city's business desk or your architect helps.

The grant pays for your premises, not your site. But a renewed front is a new chance to be found: new photos, new hours after the works, perhaps a new entrance. Whoever forgets that online still shows the old shop months later. Ghent scrapped its shop premises grant on 31 December 2025; Turnhout goes the other way.

A checklist for anyone in Turnhout renewing a front or shop space with the shop premises grant.

What has to change online

  1. Your Google Business Profile. It is often the first picture people see of your business. Replace the photo of the old front, add your temporary closure during the works and afterwards your new hours; how to manage that profile is in create a Google Business Profile. If your profile no longer shows properly in Google, read Google Business Profile not showing.
  2. Your site. New photos of front and interior, what is new in your range, and a reopening with a date. A site that says during the works that you are closed and when you reopen keeps customers with you.
  3. Your reviews. A reopening is the moment to ask happy customers for a review; with the Google review link generator you put a QR code at the till.

If you are also considering an online shop or reservations with the renovation, first read is an online store worth it.

Companies that make things in Turnhout

Turnhout is also an industrial city. Cartamundi has printed playing cards there since 1826, Soudal makes construction chemicals and Miko grew into an international group. Around those companies work suppliers, installers and service providers that sell to other companies. Their site does not turn on a shop front but on trust: references, certificates, a page per service and a clear contact person. Whoever delivers internationally adds an English version.

Customers from across the border, and from further away

Turnhout lies on the border with the Netherlands, next to Baarle-Hertog and Baarle-Nassau. Dutch shoppers buy in Turnhout, and Turnhout companies sell in North Brabant. For a site that means:

  • Choose a Flemish site ifyour Dutch customers mostly come to your shop. Most Dutch people read Flemish copy without a problem; do make your prices, hours and payment options clear.
  • Choose a separate version for the Netherlands ifyou deliver in the Netherlands or use other prices or terms there. Link the two with hreflang as nl-BE and nl-NL, so they do not compete.
  • Choose English ifyou are an industrial company that sells or recruits internationally, like many companies on Turnhout's business parks, or if you serve the expats who work for them.

How to maintain several versions without double work is on our page about multilingual website development. In every version your site shows the company name, address, company number and email (company number on your website), and if you recruit in English, remember that the contracts for staff in Flanders are drawn up in Dutch under the Flemish language decree.

In 2025, 417 companies started and 418 stopped: whoever opens almost always replaces someone who stopped. A findable site makes the difference between a unit that empties again and a business that stays.

What it costs

A Turnhout shop usually pays 500 to 1,500 euros on the market for a single page, 2,000 to 6,000 euros for a site with a page per service or product group, and 4,000 to 15,000 euros or more for an online shop, excluding VAT. We start at 1,500 euros for custom work; if you plan a renovation, we time the delivery of the site to that of the front, with a fixed price after the first meeting. You can calculate it yourself with the website cost calculator; the yearly costs are in website cost per year.

During the works

A front renovation takes weeks, sometimes months. If you stay open behind scaffolding, say so: on your site, in your profile and on your door. Put a short notice at the top of your site with the entrance your customers use now and until when the works run. If you have to close, put the period in your Google profile as a temporary closure, not a permanent one, or you disappear from the results. And take photos during the works: a before-and-after of your front is a strong message for the reopening, and a good picture for your site.

Accessibility after the renovation

Is your shop step-free after the works, or has the entrance moved? Say so on your site and in your profile: people coming with a wheelchair or pushchair check that in advance.

Mistakes during a renovation

  • The old front stays in GoogleCustomers look for a shop that no longer looks like that.
  • No notice during the worksPeople who stand at a closed door do not come back.
  • The reopening only on FacebookPut it on your site and in your profile too.
  • The site keeps you waitingPlan the photos of the new front for the day after delivery.

From Ghent to Turnhout

Turnhout is far from our office on the Sint-Baafsplein in Ghent: 106 kilometres, a good hour and a quarter by car, and almost two hours by train. So we start online, in English or Dutch, and you follow the build on a test address. For the photos of your renewed business we come to Turnhout. We have no client in the Campine; what we show is work that runs the same way, like the site with projects and calculators of SN Group, a construction company in Ghent whose new-build house is the picture at the top. How we build is at website design; the rest of the region at web design in the Campine.
