On this page
You look for Fiverr alternatives in Europe when you need more than a one-off job at a fixed price: a site that sells, copy written for your own market, or someone you can call. Upwork and Malt are platforms where you select and manage freelancers yourself. A freelancer in your market or an agency are the routes outside a platform. Fiverr itself stays handy for small, well-defined jobs.
This page puts the options side by side: what Fiverr charges per order, what the other platforms ask, what a job costs in total, and who each route fits. We are an agency in Ghent, Belgium, and none of these platforms. On the last option, an agency, we are not neutral.
Fiverr in short
On Fiverr, freelancers sell fixed packages called Gigs: up to three tiers (Basic, Standard, Premium), each with a price in US dollars, a delivery time and a number of revisions, plus extras you can add. You pay up front by PayPal, card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
On top of the freelancer's price Fiverr charges a service fee: 5.5 percent of the purchase amount, plus 3.50 dollars on orders under 200 dollars. Every payment carries its own fee, including an extra or a tip. At checkout you see price, taxes and fees separately. If an order is cancelled, the amount and fee go to your Fiverr balance, or back to your account on request.
Is Fiverr safe for business work? Your money sits with Fiverr until the freelancer delivers, so you do not lose it easily. Quality depends on the freelancer: check their reviews on similar jobs, their portfolio and exactly what the package includes, and when in doubt, start with a small paid trial.
Why businesses look for a Fiverr alternative
- Language and marketCopy or a site for German, French or Dutch customers needs someone who writes natively and knows how they search.
- The work after deliveryA Gig ends at delivery. A site must then go live, be maintained and be found in Google.
- The brief is on youA fixed price works only if you know exactly what you want. A good website brief is half the work.
- You want someone to callWhen something breaks on a Friday evening, you want a name and a number, not a message thread.
- EU rulesA site selling in the EU must meet rules on consent, privacy and, for online sales, accessibility. See the European Accessibility Act and do I need a cookie banner.

Fiverr alternatives side by side
| Route | Price form | What comes on top | Language and market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiverr | Fixed package in dollars | 5.5 percent, plus 3.50 dollars under 200 | Global, mostly English |
| Upwork | Hourly or per milestone | 5 or 10 percent, plus a one-off fee | Global, mostly English |
| Malt | Mostly per day | Ask before you book | European, several languages |
| Freelancer in your market | Hourly, daily or fixed | Nothing | Your language and market |
| Agency | Fixed per project or per month | Nothing | Your language and market |
The biggest difference is not in the table: what happens after delivery. A Gig or an Upwork contract ends at delivery unless you order again. With a regular freelancer or an agency you agree on maintenance and growth. And on every platform you select yourself, on reviews, proposals or profiles; with an agency you choose the agency, and the agency picks the team.
What a job costs in total
Our own worked examples, with the platform fees and a typical European freelance rate of 30 to 80 euros an hour.
| Job | Through Fiverr | Through Upwork Basic | Freelancer in your market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logo, 150 dollars | 150 + 8.25 fee + 3.50 = 161.75 dollars | 150 + 7.50 fee + up to 14.99 = up to 172.49 dollars | 8 hours at 30 to 80 euros: 240 to 640 euros |
| Simple site, 600 dollars | 600 + 33 fee = 633 dollars | 600 + 30 fee + up to 14.99 = up to 644.99 dollars | a business site: usually 2,000 to 6,000 euros |
| Ten SEO texts, 500 dollars | 500 + 27.50 fee = 527.50 dollars | 500 + 25 fee + up to 14.99 = up to 539.99 dollars | 40 hours at 30 to 80 euros: 1,200 to 3,200 euros |
On paper the platform wins every row. In practice you add two things. Your own time: briefing, following up, checking and having it corrected, and for a site also publishing and maintaining it. And what it delivers: a logo is a logo, but a site or an SEO text must bring visitors and enquiries. Text on the wrong search terms or a slow site costs you more than the price gap. What developers charge across Europe is in web developer hourly rate; what SEO specialists charge in SEO specialist hourly rate.
When Fiverr is the right choice
- A small job you can judgeA banner, an icon, a short translation, a voice-over.
- A first sketchA few logo ideas to find your taste before you hire a designer for the brand.
- A clear brief and time to follow upIf you know exactly what you want and can check it yourself, Fiverr gives a lot for little.
When something else fits better
- Your site must sell and be foundThen more counts than design: copy on search terms, speed, measurement, maintenance. What SEO costs is in how much does SEO cost.
- You sell in several languagesEach language is its own market with its own search terms; see multilingual website development.
- You want one contactAn agency or a regular freelancer knows your business better after a year than after a Gig. What agencies charge is in digital marketing agency cost.
- It must become one wholeA logo on Fiverr, a site on Upwork and copy through Malt are three parties you align yourself.
If you would rather hire developers through a platform for software, see Upwork alternatives.
Fiverr or something else, briefly
Is there a European alternative to Fiverr?
Malt is a European freelance platform, strong in France and Belgium. Outside platforms, you find a freelancer or agency in your market through your network, LinkedIn or referrals.
Can I get a website built on Fiverr?
Yes, as a package. Add yourself what happens after delivery: hosting, maintenance, copy on search terms and measurement. That is rarely in a Gig.
Do I pay VAT on Fiverr in the EU?
Fiverr shows taxes separately at checkout. Ask your accountant how a purchase from a foreign platform enters your VAT return.
Who owns a logo I have made on Fiverr?
That depends on the package: some freelancers only hand over the source files and rights in the top tier or as an extra. Check that the package mentions source files and commercial use before you order.
