Facebook ads cost whatever budget you set: Meta imposes no fixed amount and suggests starting with at least 5 dollars a day for six days. What you get for it is measured in three prices. Across seven European markets, the median cost per 1,000 views runs from about 4 to 10 dollars, and a click from 0.35 to 0.77 dollars, as a median of the monthly figures over a year. A lead costs most: in Belgium 46 to 132 dollars in six of nine months, across all countries 31 to 51 dollars.
Instagram ads are bought in the same Ads Manager, in the same auction. This guide turns those prices into a budget: per goal, per country and per situation, with four worked examples of our own. You also read what the ad price leaves out, such as images and tracking, and when Google fits better than Meta. To check your own margin straight away, use the ROAS calculator.
Facebook ads cost per country in Europe
The median of a year of monthly figures, in dollars:
| Country | Per 1,000 views (CPM) | Per click (CPC) | Most expensive month per 1,000 views |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belgium | 5.94 | 0.58 | October 2025: 10.18 |
| Netherlands | 9.66 | 0.73 | July 2026: 29.45 |
| Germany | 10.19 | 0.77 | June 2026: 15.38 |
| France | 5.03 | 0.41 | July 2026: 21.74 |
| United Kingdom | 10.16 | 0.76 | July 2026: 16.09 |
| Spain | 4.29 | 0.35 | July 2026: 25.29 |
| Ireland | 9.79 | 0.73 | July 2026: 17.94 |
Belgium, France and Spain are among the cheaper markets; the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Ireland cost nearly twice as much per 1,000 views. You pay for the audience where your ad appears, so a campaign aimed at Brussels in French sits in the Belgian auction, not the French one. In the United States a Facebook lead costs 27.39 dollars on average, 13.74 in real estate and 61.56 for dentists.

Starting budget per goal
Our own worked examples with the Belgian medians. Meta advises a budget that can run for at least seven days so the system can learn.
- Awareness and reach
- What Meta looks forAs many people in your area as possible, several times
- First week, worked example10 a day, 70 a week: at 6 per 1,000 about 11,700 views
- Traffic to your site
- What Meta looks forPeople likely to click
- First week, worked example15 a day, 105 a week: at 0.58 a click about 180 visits
- Leads through a form
- What Meta looks forPeople likely to fill something in
- First week, worked exampleTen leads at 46 to 132: 460 to 1,320 a week, or 66 to 189 a day
- Sales in an online shop
- What Meta looks forPeople likely to buy

Reach and traffic can be tested on a small daily budget. Leads and sales need enough budget to get a handful of results within a week, or the campaign has too few results to steer on.
How Meta spends your budget
- The auctionMeta shows your ad through an auction. What you pay depends on ad quality, bid strategy, performance goal, budget type and campaign objective. A better ad can cost less per result.
- Daily budgetOn a day with more opportunities Meta may spend up to 75 percent more than your daily budget. Over a week it stays under seven times the daily budget.
- Run timeMeta advises a budget that can run at least seven days, and names at least 5 dollars and six days as a start. You can pause an ad at any time.
- SeasonIn the Belgian figures the cost per 1,000 views was about 10 dollars in October 2025 and about 4 in February 2026; across Europe July 2026 was the most expensive month in five of seven countries. Advertise in busy months and you pay more for the same attention.
- AttributionHow Meta credits a result to an ad changed in 2026; what that does to your reports is in Meta ads click attribution change.
Facebook ads cost in Belgium, by measure
| Measure | Belgium, monthly median | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Per 1,000 views (CPM) | 4.13 to 10.18 dollars | What attention costs. Rises when many advertisers want the same audience |
| Per click (CPC) | 0.32 to 0.86 dollars | What a visit to your site costs |
| Click-through rate (CTR) | 0.75 to 2.09 percent | How many of those who see your ad click |
| Per lead | 46 to 132 dollars in six of nine months, peaks up to 558 in December | What a submitted form costs. Swings the most |
Facebook or Instagram
At the end of 2025 ads could reach 6.2 million people on Facebook in Belgium, 52.7 percent of the population, and 5.1 million on Instagram, 43.4 percent. Both run through the same Ads Manager and you choose per campaign where your ad appears. Which one costs less per result depends on your audience, so test it: run the same ad on both for a week and compare the cost per result. Whether Meta or Google fits your offer is weighed in Google Ads cost.
The cost per lead swings hard
In the Belgian figures the median per lead was 558 dollars in December 2025 and 308 in February 2026, against 46 to 132 in six of nine months. One month says little: judge your own campaign over a full month, not a few days, with the same budget and audience.
What the ad price leaves out
- Images and videoOn Facebook and Instagram the picture sells. Photos, reels or a short video cost extra unless you make them; what video costs is in corporate video cost, and what we film ourselves on corporate video.
- ManagementWhoever sets up and steers your campaigns charges a monthly fee or a share of your budget, separate from what you pay Meta.
- TrackingThe Meta pixel or a server-side connection must see your leads and sales, and in the EU may only measure after the visitor's consent. Whether you need a banner is in do I need a cookie banner.
- A page to land onAn ad that lands on your home page loses half its strength. See landing page design.
- VATIn the EU you buy from Meta in Ireland; a business with a VAT number self-assesses VAT under the reverse charge.
- Follow-upA lead from a Facebook form does not wait. Call or email the same day.
Four situations, four budgets
Our own worked examples with the Belgian medians (about 6 per 1,000 views, 0.58 a click, 46 to 132 a lead, in dollars). Conversion rates and order values are our assumptions. In the Netherlands or Germany, count on 60 to 70 percent more per view.
| Situation | Budget and run | Total | What it roughly buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holiday home, booking requests | 20 a day, 30 days | 600 | 100,000 views, 1,030 visits, 4 to 13 requests |
| Online store, sales | 30 a day, 30 days | 900 | 1,550 visits; at 2 percent conversion 31 orders |
| Business with a vacancy | 15 a day, 14 days | 210 | 35,000 views in your region, 360 visits to the job page |
| Opening or event | 10 a day, 10 days | 100 | 16,700 views among people nearby |
For the store, what counts is return: 31 orders at an average of 60 are 1,860 in revenue on 900 of ads, a ROAS of about 2. Whether that is profit depends on your margin. For the vacancy and the event you measure reach and visits, not leads. Plan what you post and promote when in the social media plan template.
Advertising in several European countries
A business selling across borders runs into three costs at once: a different auction price per country, a different language per audience, and the same EU consent rules, enforced by a separate data protection authority in every country. Three habits help.
- One ad set per language, not per country. Belgium alone needs Dutch and French; an English ad in Brussels reaches fewer people than a French one. Let the budget follow the language, then compare the cost per result per country inside it.
- Split the budget by result, not by population. With a median of 4.29 dollars per 1,000 views in Spain against 10.19 in Germany, the same 600 dollars buys about 140,000 views in Spain and 59,000 in Germany. Fewer views can still be worth more if the German order is larger.
- Keep one landing page per language. A translated page with its own address works better than a page that switches language after loading. We build those as multilingual websites from the start.
When Facebook ads pay off, and when they do not
- Choose Metawhen you show something people do not search for yet: a new product, a holiday home, an event, a vacancy. Images and video do the work.
- Choose Googlewhen people already search for your service. What that costs is in Google Ads cost.
- Start organicwhen you have no image that works yet. What managing your channels costs is in social media management pricing.
Pitfalls that eat your budget
- An audience that is too smallA few towns with a narrow interest spend your budget on the same people again and again.
- Adjusting every dayMeta learns per ad set. Change the budget or audience daily and it starts over each time.
- Measuring clicks instead of customersA click is not a booking. Track requests and sales.
- One image for everythingThe same ad for months to the same people makes every view more expensive.
Facebook and Instagram ads, answered briefly
How much do Facebook ads cost per day?
As much as you set. Meta asks at least 5 dollars a day as a start; a first campaign that gets enough results to steer on usually needs 15 to 25 euros a day.
What is the average Facebook CPM in Europe?
Between about 4 and 10 dollars per 1,000 views as a median over a year, lowest in Spain, France and Belgium, highest in Germany, the UK and Ireland. Summer months run well above that.
How much do Instagram ads cost?
You buy them in the same Ads Manager and auction as Facebook. What a result costs differs per audience: test both with the same ad and keep the cheaper placement.
Are Facebook ads cheaper than Google Ads?
Per click often yes: a Meta click costs well under a euro in most European markets, while a Google click runs up to 8 euros in some sectors. But someone clicking on Google is already searching for your service.
Why are Facebook ads more expensive in summer and December?
More advertisers want the same audience, so the auction price rises. In July 2026 the Dutch median per 1,000 views reached 29.45 dollars.
Do I pay VAT on Facebook ads in the EU?
A business with a VAT number buys from Meta in Ireland and self-assesses VAT under the reverse charge; ask your accountant how it enters your return.
