Yes, you can switch from Lightspeed to Shopify and keep a till in your shop: with Shopify POS as your new till, or with your Lightspeed till talking to Shopify through an integration. Which of the two fits depends on one question: do you want one system for your stock, or do you not want to touch your till? Decide that before you move a single product, because it determines where your stock will live.
If you only have an online shop on Lightspeed eCom, the switch is an ordinary online shop migration: export products, customers and orders, import them into Shopify, and a 301 for every old address. Those steps are covered in detail in migrate to Shopify. This guide is about what is specific to Lightspeed: the till in the shop, the .html addresses of the online shop, filters and variants, and the contract you end only at the right moment. It is written for shop owners in Belgium and the Netherlands, where Lightspeed is common, who manage their business in English. Still unsure whether to switch at all? Read Shopify or Lightspeed first.
Two routes for a shop with a till
Route A: everything to Shopify, the till too
Your online shop and your physical shop run on Shopify, with Shopify POS as the till. Stock, products and customers sit in one system. A sale in the shop takes the item straight out of online stock, and the other way round. You need new hardware or hardware Shopify supports, and your staff learn a new till.
Route B: Shopify online, Lightspeed in the shop
Your online shop moves to Shopify, your till stays Lightspeed. An integration keeps stock and products in sync between the two, as an app or custom-built on the APIs of both systems. Your staff and hardware stay as they are. You pay for two systems and you have an integration that must keep working.
| Route A: Shopify plus Shopify POS | Route B: Shopify plus Lightspeed till | |
|---|---|---|
| Stock | one system | two systems, kept in sync by an integration |
| Staff | learn a new till | nothing changes in the shop |
| Hardware | Shopify hardware or compatible devices | your current hardware |
| Risk | the switch in the shop has to go right in one go | the integration: if it stops, the stock levels drift apart |
| Suits | a shop that needs new hardware anyway, or wants one system | a shop with many staff or a till that works well |

What it costs per month, before and after
Our own worked example for a shop with a till and an online shop, with the prices Lightspeed and Shopify show on their Belgian pricing pages on 24 October 2026, per month on an annual plan. We leave out hardware and payment fees per transaction; those differ per device and per payment method.
| Setup | Online shop | Till | Total per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Now: Lightspeed Retail Basic plus eCom Essential | 68 euros | 99 euros | 167 euros |
| Now: Lightspeed Retail Basic plus eCom Advanced | 120 euros | 99 euros | 219 euros |
| Route A: Shopify Basic plus POS Pro for one location | 24 euros | 79 euros | 103 euros |
| Route B: Shopify Basic plus Lightspeed Retail Basic | 24 euros | 99 euros | 123 euros, plus the integration |
Three things change the sum. Lightspeed charges no transaction fees on eCom, but you do pay your payment provider. Shopify charges per payment through Shopify Payments, in the shop from 1.4 percent by card on Basic, and 2 percent extra if you use another payment provider online. And Shopify POS also exists without Pro: every Shopify plan includes a till, but with fewer features and, on Basic, a limited number of staff with access to it. What Lightspeed costs in detail is in Lightspeed pricing, what Shopify costs per order in Shopify cost.
Moving the online shop: what is specific to Lightspeed
Exporting from Lightspeed eCom
In the Lightspeed eCom back office you get your data out with the export tool: orders, invoices, products and VAT as a CSV file, per period if you like. Export everything before you cancel, including what you do not take to Shopify. Keep invoices for your accounts; how long, ask your accountant.
Addresses ending in .html
In a Lightspeed online shop, product addresses often end in .html, and extra languages sit in their own folder such as /fr/ or /en/. Check which pattern your own shop has. On Shopify every product sits under /products/. So every old product page gets a 301 redirect to its new address:
| Lightspeed eCom | Shopify | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| /oak-table.html | /products/oak-table | 301 per product |
| /fr/table-en-chene.html | /fr/products/table-en-chene, with a second language in Shopify | 301 per product per language |
| /tables/ | /collections/tables | 301 per category |
| /service/shipping-returns/ | /policies/shipping-policy or /pages/shipping | 301 per information page |
| /blogs/news/care/ | /blogs/news/care | 301, even if the path is nearly the same |
Shopify cannot redirect an address ending in .html to the same address without .html, but you do not need that: the new address is under /products/. You upload the redirects as a CSV in Shopify under Content, Menus, URL redirects. What else plays a part is in website migration without losing SEO.
Filters and variants
Lightspeed and Shopify structure variants and filters differently. In Shopify a product has up to three options, such as size, colour and material, with the variants underneath; filters in your shop come from those options, from product fields and from metafields. A product with many combinations in Lightspeed you check one by one after the import. Expect most of the follow-up work of the whole move here.
Customers and orders
Customers move as a CSV, their passwords do not: you invite them, or let them log in with a one-time code by email. Order history moves through a migration app or the API, or you keep it as an archive from the export. What a customer wants to see in their account decides which. How to move a domain if your shop address is registered with Lightspeed is in transfer a domain name; what an online shop costs over three years, in ecommerce website cost.
When to end Lightspeed
Lightspeed does not refund a subscription once your licence runs, on a monthly or an annual plan. Cancelling or changing goes through your account manager at Lightspeed. Hence this order:
- Read your order form or contract for the term and the notice period, and put the end date in your diary.
- Plan the switch just before that end date, with a week's margin for follow-up work.
- Export everything from the export tool, invoices and VAT data included.
- Put the online shop in maintenance mode as soon as Shopify is live; your back office stays reachable.
- Only cancel once the new shop has run for a week without problems, the till included if you chose route A.
Cancel third-party apps separately: otherwise they just keep charging.
Do it yourself or have it done?
A small Lightspeed online shop without a till, with few variants and one language, you move yourself with the CSVs and a short list of redirects. With a till in the shop it is a different story. Route A needs a switch in the shop on a quiet day, with staff who know the new till. Route B needs an integration that reliably keeps stock in sync, even when two channels sell the same last item at the same time. After the switch, follow in Google Search Console whether the number of 404s rises, and submit the new sitemap.
Building integrations is work we do every day: an integration moves data back and forth through the API of each system, with a log and an alert if something fails. For a simple sync a standard tool can be enough; how those compare is in Make, Zapier or n8n. For stock that has to add up across more than two systems, inventory management software is the next step.
We do not yet show a Lightspeed to Shopify migration of our own. What we do show is software companies run on every day: the transport platform of DA Logistics with thirty drivers, 34 vehicles and fuel tracked to the litre, where every release goes live in two to six seconds with a backup and a way back. That is how we plan a till switch too. How we build shops is on webshop development.
Leaving Lightspeed, with or without a till
Can I keep my Lightspeed till if I move to Shopify?
Yes. Your online shop goes to Shopify and your till stays Lightspeed, with an integration that keeps stock and products in sync. Or you choose Shopify POS and have everything in one system.
How do I cancel Lightspeed?
Through your account manager at Lightspeed. Read your order form first for the term: Lightspeed does not refund a running monthly or annual subscription.
Do my customers move from Lightspeed to Shopify?
Their data does, as a CSV. Their passwords do not: you invite them to choose a new one, or let them log in with a one-time code by email.
What happens to my Lightspeed addresses in Google?
Every old address, often ending in .html, gets a 301 to the new address under /products/ or /collections/. That keeps your rankings.
Is Shopify cheaper than Lightspeed?
In our worked example with a till and an online shop, yes: 103 euros a month for Shopify Basic with POS Pro against 167 to 219 euros with Lightspeed. Payment fees and hardware can shift that.
