Lovable vs WordPress on one physio practice site
Five treatment pages, an appointment request form and a blog. Plans in US dollars, October 2026, before tax.
- How you build
- LovableYou describe the site in a chat. Lovable writes React code and publishes it.
- WordPressYou pick a theme, lay out pages in the block editor and add plugins for the form and SEO.
- First version
- LovableA few prompts in, and it looks finished.
- WordPressSlower: pick a theme, build the pages, set up the plugins.
- Monthly cost
- LovablePro: 25 dollars a month, or 250 a year on yearly billing, for 100 credits. A custom domain needs Pro or higher.
- WordPressThe software is free. WordPress.com Personal, with plugins: 4 dollars a month billed yearly, 9 monthly, excl. taxes.
- What Google receives
- LovableProjects started after 13 May 2026: full HTML from the server. Older projects: an empty shell for browsers, a pre-rendered copy for verified crawlers.
- WordPressFull HTML from the server on every page.
- Changing a sentence
- LovableThrough a prompt or in the code. Each prompt spends credits.
- WordPressIn the editor, by anyone with a login.
- Upkeep
- LovableLovable runs the platform. You check what each new prompt changed.
- WordPressCore, theme and plugins update often. Someone installs and tests them every month.
- Code ownership
- LovableYours, with Git sync on every plan. Database and storage you move to Supabase yourself.
- WordPressYours, under the GPL. Files and database move to any PHP host.
- Where data lives
- LovableBackend in Americas, Europe or Asia Pacific, chosen at the start and fixed after.
- WordPressWherever your host runs it. Pick a European host if your customers are in the EU.
Lovable wins the race to a first version, WordPress wins on day-to-day editing by your own team. If the site has to last years, read the last four rows twice.

Lovable vs WordPress is the choice between a site an AI writes for you and a site you assemble. WordPress, the software behind over 43 percent of all websites, gives you an editor, a theme and thousands of plugins. Lovable takes a description in plain English and writes the code itself. Both get you online in an afternoon. The difference shows up in month three.
We build websites from Ghent, Belgium, for businesses anywhere in Europe. What follows is what we check first on either kind of site.
Where Lovable breaks
Older projects and search engines. A Lovable project started before 13 May 2026 is a React app that builds itself in the browser. The browser receives a mostly empty page; verified search engines and preview bots get a pre-rendered copy, other tools see very little. A third-party SEO audit may report such a site as empty. New projects run on TanStack Start and send full HTML to everyone. If you have an older project, upgrading is a step you take yourself.
Every change is a prompt. Most owners ask the AI to change opening hours rather than edit code. That spends credits, and a request about the footer can quietly change the form. If nobody reads the code, you find out when the enquiries stop. Where that way of building breaks once customers arrive is covered under vibe coding.
The backend region is a one-time choice. Forms and logins run on Lovable Cloud, built on Supabase. You pick the region once, when the backend is enabled, and cannot change it afterwards. Serving customers in the EU? Choose Europe on day one: GDPR expects you to know where their data sits. Keeping AI requests themselves in the EU is an Enterprise feature.
Where WordPress breaks
Plugins with minds of their own. Forms, cookie consent, SEO, a second language: each is a plugin from a different maker, with its own update cycle and sometimes its own yearly licence. The more you stack, the more likely one update stops another.
Upkeep nobody sees. WordPress core, the theme and every plugin ship updates, often security fixes. Skip them and the site falls behind. Budget the hours every month or pay someone to do it.
The editor invites drift. Anyone with a login can add a page. Two years later the site has forty pages, three page builders and no structure. That is a governance problem more than a software one, but WordPress makes it easy.
Ownership: what you take with you
With WordPress you leave with everything: files and database move to any host. With Lovable the code is yours and leaves through GitHub. The database and file storage are not in that export: you migrate them to Supabase yourself, and AI features or connectors that run through Lovable need replacing. A TanStack Start project then needs a host that runs server code, not plain static hosting.
Lovable vs Bolt
Bolt is the closest AI builder to Lovable. Its Pro plan costs 18 dollars a month billed annually, with 10 million tokens and your own domain, plus taxes. Both write real code and host it for you, both price by usage, and the same questions apply to both: what search engines receive, who reviews each change, and how hard it is to move the backend out.
What a year costs
Our own worked example for a small business site, before VAT and without your own time. The middle column is a WordPress install on SiteGround's StartUp plan, a host with data centres in Europe; any comparable host works the same way.
| Item | Lovable Pro | WordPress on SiteGround | WordPress.com Personal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform or hosting, year one | 250 dollars | 2.99 x 12 = 35.88 euros | 4 x 12 = 48 dollars |
| Platform or hosting, year two | 250 dollars | 15.99 x 12 = 191.88 euros | 48 dollars |
| Over three years | 750 dollars | 419.64 euros | 144 dollars |
| Who keeps it running | You, checking every prompt | You or your developer, every month | WordPress.com, within its limits |
Self-hosting looks cheapest in year one and is not: the introductory hosting price jumps more than fivefold at renewal, so budget on the second line. The software is cheap on all three. The real difference is your time: prompts and checks on Lovable, updates and plugins on WordPress. How long a build takes is in how long does it take to build a website.
Which fits which situation
| Situation | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Founder testing an idea with a landing page | Lovable | Online fast, few pages |
| Business with a blog and a team that publishes | WordPress | Anyone with a login edits text |
| Site with bookings or a link to your planning | WordPress with a plugin, or custom | Depends on how unique your process is |
| Site that must rank on many terms | WordPress or a custom site | A page per service and city, full HTML, speed |
| Prototype that must become a product | Lovable first, then a developer | The code is yours and moves through GitHub |
A single landing page is its own job, covered in landing page design. A site that must rank needs a plan per search term; what that costs is in how much does SEO cost. Turning a prototype into a product is web application development.
Worried about WordPress security? Read is WordPress safe; about speed, why is WordPress so slow. For sites in several languages, see multilingual website development.
Before you commit to either
- In Lovable, start a fresh project so every page ships as full HTML from the server.
- Pick the Europe region for your Lovable backend before the first form if your customers are in the EU.
- Connect Lovable to a GitHub account owned by your company on day one.
- On WordPress, price the hosting at its renewal rate, not the first-year offer.
- List the plugins your WordPress site depends on and name who updates them each month.
- After every prompt or plugin update, send a real test enquiry through the form.
- Register the domain, hosting and accounts in your company's name, not your builder's.
Doubts about AI builders and classic CMSs
Is Lovable good for SEO?
Projects started since 13 May 2026 use server-side rendering, so search engines and AI crawlers read the same full page as visitors. Older projects are browser-rendered React apps with a pre-rendered copy for verified crawlers. Page titles, search terms and one page per service are still your job.
How much does Lovable cost per month?
Free gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, without a custom domain. Pro costs 25 dollars a month, or 250 dollars a year on yearly billing, for 100 credits a month. Bigger credit packs cost more; Business starts at 50 dollars a month. Hosting and backend usage run on credits, with 20 Cloud credits a month included.
Can I move a Lovable site to WordPress later?
Not directly. Lovable produces React code; WordPress runs on PHP, themes and its own database. You rebuild the site in WordPress and carry over the copy and images.
Is WordPress really free?
The software is, under the GPL. You pay for hosting, the domain, premium themes or plugins and upkeep. WordPress.com sells it as a subscription: Personal is 4 dollars a month billed yearly, excl. taxes.
Where does Lovable store my data?
Pages are served worldwide. The backend with your database lives in the region chosen when it was enabled: Americas, Europe or Asia Pacific.
