At last, a number for what AI does with your pages.
Since 31 August 2026 the Search Console AI performance report shows every site how often its pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, by country and by device. Discover has a report of its own. Google first tested the reports with a subset of UK website owners, then rolled them out worldwide.
Until then this sat hidden in your normal numbers. It still does: AI impressions count in the overall performance report, and the new report sets them apart. Below: where it is, how to read it, which patterns mean something and what the report does not tell you.
What the report shows, and where to find it
You find the report in Search Console among the performance reports, as the Generative AI performance report. The choice to keep your site in or take it out sits separately, under Settings; what that choice does is in opt out of Google AI Overviews.
| Part | What you see | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions | How often a link to your site appeared in an AI answer | Impressions only, no clicks |
| Pages | Which URLs AI showed | Counted on the canonical URL, after redirects |
| Countries | Where the search came from | Read a multilingual site market by market |
| Devices | Desktop, tablet or mobile | Search only, not Discover |
| Dates | By hour, day, week or month | The newest data is preliminary |
| Search type | Typed queries, or searching with an image | The image filter arrived on 24 September |
The image filter covers Google Lens, Circle to Search on Android, uploaded images and searching an image in Chrome. Search Labs experiments are not counted.

Page
Which pages AI shows
By page, country and device. Are your service pages in it, or only your blog?
Side by side
AI impressions next to your clicks
The AI report has no clicks. Take them per page from the regular performance report.
Decide
Update where it counts
If your service page is missing, make the answer on that page clearer and more complete.
The report counts impressions. What AI says about you, you only learn by searching yourself.
Three patterns that mean something
Only your blog posts, no service or product pages. AI cites your explainer on a concept, but not the page where someone asks for a quote. That brings few buyers. Make the page that sells the best answer to the question that leads to a purchase: what it costs, how long it takes, who it is not for. A page with a website cost calculator gets cited more easily than one that says "custom, get in touch".
Many AI impressions, few clicks. The AI report has no clicks, but the regular performance report does. Put the two side by side for the same page. If impressions rise and the click-through rate falls, the AI answer already settles the question. Give the reader a reason to click: a calculator on your website, a price for their situation, an example that does not fit in the answer.
No report at all. Google only shows the report once your site gets enough impressions in AI features, and not if you excluded your site. Check that setting first, then search your ten most important buyer questions yourself in Google and in AI Mode.
Why the chart and the table differ
The chart counts by property: two links to your site in one AI answer are one impression. The table counts by page: the same answer gives two. The table total is therefore often higher than the line in the chart. The table also shows at most 1,000 rows. If you want everything, export; values shown as a dash or a tilde come out as zero in your file.
Questions about the AI report
Do AI impressions also count in my normal numbers?
Yes. AI impressions are in the overall performance report, as before. The AI report shows them separately as well, so you see which share of your impressions comes from AI answers.
Can I see how many people clicked through from an AI answer?
Not in the AI report, which only counts impressions. Your clicks are in the regular performance report, without an AI split. Compare the two page by page.
Does it show ChatGPT or Perplexity?
No. Search Console only measures Google. Visitors from other AI assistants show up in your own analytics, if it records the referring source.
Can I see the report per country?
Yes, with the Countries dimension. A German webshop selling into Austria and Switzerland should read each country on its own, because every market has different rivals in the AI answer.
What the report does not tell you
The report counts impressions, not content. Whether AI describes your company correctly, quotes your price right or confuses you with a competitor, you only learn by searching yourself. It also measures only Google, not ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot. And an impression is not a customer: count the enquiries that follow. How to appear as a source more often is in how to get found in ChatGPT, the concept of GEO and the difference with classic SEO in SEO vs GEO. Check with the AI crawler checker that your site does not block the crawlers, and keep following your regular numbers after every update, like the May 2026 core update.
