Software for electrical contractors that follows the van, not the desk

£40,000
Job sheets on the phone, a board that shows who is where, and a file per property with every certificate. Built around how your crew already works.
A Tuesday in Wharfedale
Software for electrical contractors has to start where the work does. Half seven, a landlord EICR in Leeds. Ten o'clock, an EV charger on a driveway in Otley. After lunch, an RCD that keeps tripping in Ilkley. In between, a customer rings for a quote, the wholesaler texts about a delivery, and the office asks who agreed the extra socket on last week's job.
In most small firms all of that lives in one head and one phone. The job sheet is a carbon pad on the dashboard, the diary is something only the owner can read, the test results sit in a certification app nobody else opens. Quotes get written at the kitchen table, invoices on Friday night. Whatever did not make it onto paper does not get billed.
We build the system that puts those pieces in one place: electrical job management software for your crew, a planning board for the week, a file per property and an invoice app for electricians that fills itself from the job sheet. Below is what we can build for each part of the job, the rules your customers rely on you to remember, and how much system fits the size of your firm.
The job sheet travels in the electrician's pocket
- The office sees the job sheet at onceHours, materials and extras are ready for the invoice. Nobody types up paper sheets.
- Certificates stay with the addressAt the next EICR or call-out, the history of that property is already in the file.
- The customer signs on the phoneExtra work is agreed before you leave, so it does not turn into a dispute on the invoice.
An example of what we can build, with made-up addresses. You choose which fields a job sheet has.
Where an electrician's week leaks money
Electricians rarely lose money on the work itself. They lose it in the gaps: the paper sheet that goes missing, the extra circuit nobody wrote down, the tenant who rings twice because nobody told them when you were coming.
| Moment | How it often goes | With your own system |
|---|---|---|
| A customer rings mid-job | You miss it or write it on your hand | The enquiry arrives through your site with the address, a photo and what needs doing |
| On site | Carbon pad, materials from memory | Job sheet on the phone with hours, materials from your list, photos and a signature |
| Extra work | Agreed on the doorstep, argued about later | The customer signs the extra on the phone before you leave |
| Certificates | A PDF in an inbox or a folder in the van | Stored against the property, ready for the next visit or the next EICR |
| Stock | The van is short of RCBOs on the wrong day | Usage per job, an alert when breakers run low |
| Invoicing | Typed up on Friday night | Hours and materials are already on it, sent to your accounts package |
What goes on the sheet and why is covered on our work order app page. Hours per job belong in a time tracking app, the store and the vans in inventory management software. How electronic invoicing is moving in the UK is set out in e-invoicing in the UK.
A CRM for electricians is built around the property, not the sales lead. The customer is an address with a consumer unit, circuits, test results and a date the next inspection is due. So we build the file around the address, with every visit, photo and certificate in it, the way a custom CRM should work for a trade.
The planning board spots a double booking before the tenant does
Clash on Tuesday
Lucy is booked at two addresses on Tuesday: an EV charger in Otley and a landlord EICR in Leeds.
Lucy is free on Wednesday. The board moves the EICR there and the tenant gets a text with the new slot.
Sorted: EICR to Wednesday

Landlord work runs on deadlines
Rented homes bring steady work, and every job comes with a clock. These are the rules an electrical contractor in England works to most often, checked in October 2026.
| Situation | What the rule asks | What the software does |
|---|---|---|
| EICR in a privately rented home | An inspection and test at least every 5 years | A due date per property, with a reminder to the landlord well before it |
| The report | A copy to tenants within 28 days | The report goes out from the job, with the date it was sent |
| Remedial or further investigation | Done within 28 days or less, then written confirmation to the tenant and the council within 28 days | A follow-up job with its own deadline on the board |
| Penalties | Up to 40,000 GBP for a landlord who breaches the duties | Landlords pick the firm that never lets a date slip |
| Social housing | The same electrical safety standards extended to the social rented sector in 2025 | Housing association work with the same cycle |
| Notifiable work in a home | Approved Document P (2013 edition, still current): notifiable work goes through a competent person scheme or building control | The notification is a step on the job sheet, not a Friday memory |
| Wiring regulations | BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 is current; the Amendment 2 transition ended on 15 October 2026 | Your forms and checklists match the edition you test to |
The software does not inspect or notify on your behalf. It makes sure you, the landlord and the tenant can all see the deadline. If landlord work is a line you want to grow, our guide on how to get more electrical work has a section on it.
A search in Otley that turns into a booked job
New request
EICR for a rental flat, 1970s build, photo of the consumer unit attached
Sophie, Otley, today 21:14
- A page per service and per town you cover
- A Google profile with photos and reviews
- A form that asks what you need to schedule the job
Example with made-up businesses and reviews.
An electrician lives on work within twenty minutes of the yard. When someone in Ilkley searches for an electrician or an EICR, your name should be there with recent reviews and a button that books the job.
That takes three things. A site with a page for each service you want more of: EICRs, consumer unit upgrades, rewires, EV chargers. A Google Business Profile with the right categories, photos of real work and a steady flow of reviews; see create a Google Business Profile and get more Google reviews. And a form that asks what you need to price and plan the job: build year, number of circuits, a photo of the board.
We build sites like that through electrician website design, with websites from 1,500 euro. Showing up in the towns you cover is SEO for electricians.
Finding a good electrician is harder than finding a customer
An example of what we can build, with made-up names. You choose which questions the form asks.
A good approved electrician does not look for work by sending a CV in Word. They see your vans, hear from a mate that your crew is steady, and check your site on their phone in the evening. If applying means a two-page form, they close it. So we build the vacancy on your own site with a few questions that matter: what they do, which qualifications and cards they hold, when he can talk. The office sees candidates in one list with where each one stands. What you show as an employer is called employer branding; once they start, you plan them with staff scheduling software.
A photo of the fuse board as a first quote
An example of what we can build. The AI proposes from your own price list, you decide.
AI does not quote in your place. It prepares what you would otherwise type at night: the lines of a quote from a photo and three sentences, priced from your own list and written your way. You check it, change it and send it. The same goes for email: an EICR request, a complaint and a wholesaler invoice each land in the right list, with a draft reply a person approves. More on AI for electricians and the AI quote generator; for supplier invoices there is invoice automation.
One van or forty staff: how much system you need
A sole trader does not need an ERP. A firm of forty needs more than a job sheet. This is what we would build at each size.
| Size | What you need | What you can leave out |
|---|---|---|
| Sole trader | A site with an enquiry form, a Google Business Profile, a job sheet on the phone that becomes an invoice | A planning board, roles and permissions, an ERP |
| Crew of five | Job sheets, a weekly planning board, a file per property with certificates and due dates | Purchasing, a separate warehouse module |
| Firm of 20 to 50 | A board that knows qualifications and travel time, stock per van, maintenance contracts, a link to your accounts | A large package you only use half of |
| Larger contractor | Projects and sites, job costing, subcontractors, a portal for landlords and housing associations | A second system next to the first |
From around twenty people the question shifts to stock and purchasing, which is where a custom ERP comes in; the difference is explained in CRM vs ERP. If you also do plumbing and heating, software for installers is the wider page; if most of your work is on a main contractor's sites, read software for construction companies. Search for electrical contractor software in the UK and you find packages first. For many firms a package is the right answer. A system of your own pays when your work does not fit the package: your own landlord cycles, your own forms, a portal for your biggest clients.
A crew of five in hours and pounds
| Task per week | Paper and a diary | Your own system |
|---|---|---|
| Typing up job sheets, 10 minutes each | 7.5 hours | 1.5 hours |
| Phoning round and rescheduling | 4 hours | 1.5 hours |
| Quotes at night, 45 minutes each | 4.5 hours | 2 hours |
| Total | 16 hours | 5 hours |
That is 11 hours a week, 506 hours over 46 weeks. At £45 an hour: 506 x 45 = £22,770 a year. Add the extra work that never reached an invoice. Say twice a week a socket or a spur worth £50: 2 x 50 x 46 = £4,600. Together £27,370 a year in this example. Yours may be more or less; count a week of your own sheets and work it through. What drives the cost of building it is covered in custom software development cost.
EV chargers as a line of work
- Smart by lawChargepoints sold in Great Britain must be smart under the 2021 regulations: off-peak by default, a randomised delay and security built in. Your job sheet can record the settings you left.
- Grants with a deadlineFrom 1 April 2026, flat owners and renters, residential landlords and the Workplace Charging Scheme get up to 500 GBP per socket, until 31 March 2027. Only OZEV-authorised installers can claim; see how to become an OZEV approved installer.
- A page of its ownIf chargers are most of your work, the form, the board and the paperwork change. We cover that on EV charger installers.
How we start with an electrical firm
- FirstA conversation about your weekHow does work come in, who plans, what does the electrician write down, when do you invoice? We look at an ordinary week, not a list of features.
- ThenA fixed price per projectWe pick the part that costs you the most time and give a fixed price for it. Websites start from 1,500 euro; software is priced after the conversation.
- After thatOne crew uses it on real jobsAn electrician and whoever plans work with the first version. What does not fit, we change before the rest of the firm follows. You own the code and the data.
We have no electrical contractor as a client yet. A planning board that catches clashes and an app for people who work on the road have been in daily use at DA Logistics since July 2026.
What electricians ask before they switch
- Can my EICRs and certificates sit in the property file?
- Yes. Per address we keep the EICR, the EIC or minor works certificates, the schedule of test results and photos of the board. At the next call-out the electrician opens the file on the phone.
- Does the app work in a loft with no signal?
- It can, if we build it that way. The sheet is saved on the phone and sent once there is signal again. We decide that at the start, because it shapes how the app works.
- Can it remind landlords when their EICR is due?
- Yes. Each rented property carries its due date, and the system sends the landlord a reminder with a link to book. You choose how far ahead.
- Do I have to replace my certification software or accounts package?
- No. We link to what you already use where it allows it, and send invoices to the package your accountant works in.
- What does software for an electrical firm cost?
- You pay for the part you want first: a job sheet, a planning board or a site. After a conversation you get a fixed price per project. Websites start from 1,500 euro.
