Choose a social media marketing agency that starts from what your buyers do on each platform, shows paid campaigns and organic posts it runs today, and works in your own business portfolio and ad account. Leave out any agency that sells followers, keeps the ad account in its own name or reports likes without enquiries or sales.

Organic posts or paid ads: which do you need from an agency?

Most companies need both, in a ratio that depends on the goal. Organic posts keep a page alive and give people who already know you a reason to stay; paid ads reach people who have never heard of you. An agency that sells only posts to a company that needs new customers sells the wrong half.

Part of the workWhat it does for youTypical monthly tasks
Organic postingShows an active, trustworthy company to people who check your pageCalendar, writing, photos or short video, publishing, replies to comments
Community managementTurns questions and comments into conversationsAnswering messages, flagging complaints, passing leads to sales
Paid social adsReaches new people by location, interest, job title or a customer listAudience setup, creative, budget control, testing, weekly checks
MeasurementTies posts and ads to enquiries or salesPixel and conversion setup, tagged links, a monthly report

Ask each agency what share of its hours goes to each row. A plan that spends most hours on organic posts while the goal is new customers needs a second look. The cost side of both halves is explained in social media management pricing and in Facebook ads cost.

Which platforms suit which kind of business?

Platform choice follows the buyer. A consumer business near its customers usually wins on Facebook and Instagram with a tight radius; a B2B company that sells to managers wins on LinkedIn, where ads can target job title, industry and company size. TikTok and YouTube suit products that show well on video.

BusinessPlatforms that usually carry the workWhat an agency should propose
Local shop, restaurant or practiceFacebook, Instagram, Google Business ProfilePosts with real photos, ads within a few kilometres, offers for regulars
WebshopInstagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTubeProduct video, catalogue ads, remarketing to visitors
B2B service or industrial supplierLinkedIn, YouTubePosts from the founder and staff, lead-form ads to job titles
Employer looking for staffFacebook, Instagram, LinkedInVacancy posts, ads within Meta's employment rules
Event or venueInstagram, Facebook, TikTokA countdown, short video, ads to the area around the venue

Usage figures per platform in Belgium are collected in social media usage in Belgium. For a B2B company, the reach of an organic post depends on how LinkedIn ranks it, as described in LinkedIn algorithm 2026; the Instagram side is in Instagram algorithm 2026. The paid side of LinkedIn and its price factors are in LinkedIn ads cost.

What does a social media agency do every month?

A social media agency plans, makes, publishes, answers and measures, in a fixed rhythm. At the start of the month it agrees a content calendar with you; during the month it publishes, replies to comments and messages, and adjusts ad budgets; at the end it reports what the posts and ads did and proposes the next month.

The calendar is the part you approve. Ask to see one from a current client, and check whether the posts are about the client's own work or about generic holidays and quotes. A useful format is in the content calendar template, and a plan for a full quarter fits the social media plan template.

Ask also who makes the visuals. Some agencies design every post in-house; some reuse stock photos; some ask you for photos every week. Your own photos of your people and your work show what a stock photo cannot, so a good agency plans a shoot or tells you exactly what to film with a phone.

What should you ask a social media agency in writing?

The answers that protect you should be in writing, because they decide what you keep when the agency leaves. Four points matter most.

First, the ad account. Ask the agency to run ads from an ad account in your own business portfolio on Meta, with the agency added as a partner. Ads paid from the agency's account leave you without history, audiences and pixel data after the contract. Second, the pages. You should be an admin of your own Facebook page, Instagram account and LinkedIn page, as explained in add an admin to a Facebook page and add an admin to a LinkedIn page.

Third, tracking. A Meta pixel on your site shows which ads led to an enquiry, but in the EU it may only fire after a visitor gives cookie consent. Ask how the agency handles that, and ask for tagged links on every post with the UTM builder, so your analytics shows which platform sent the visit. Fourth, the report: which measures, how often and in which language.

Which red flags show up in social media offers?

Some offers look generous and still cost you. The table lists the warning signs that come up most and what lies behind them.

Red flagWhat lies behind itAsk instead
"1,000 new followers a month"Followers can be bought or farmed; they rarely buy from you"How many enquiries or sales did a client's ads bring?"
The ad account belongs to the agencyYou lose the history and the audiences when you leave"Will you run ads from my own business portfolio?"
Reports with only likes and reachNobody checked whether posts led to business"Which conversions do you track, and how?"
Job, housing or credit ads aimed by age and genderMeta treats these as special ad categories with fixed targeting"How do you build these ads within Meta's rules?"
Political or social issue ads offered in the EUMeta stopped these ads in the EU in October 2025"Which message can we run as a normal ad?"
The same post on every platformEach platform has its own format and audience"Can I see how one idea looks on two platforms?"

The special ad category rules apply to employment, housing and financial products: in Europe the age range is fixed at 18 to 65 or older, gender cannot be chosen, a location radius must be at least 15 kilometres and lookalike audiences are not available. An agency that recruits staff through Meta ads should explain this before it promises a narrow audience. The rules on politics are in are political ads allowed in the EU, and the usual reasons for a rejected ad are in why was my Facebook ad rejected.

Which social media marketing agency in Belgium should you pick?

Pick a social media agency that writes natively in the languages of your buyers. A company with customers in Flanders and Brussels often needs Dutch and French posts, and sometimes English for expats, international staff or a foreign head office. Ask whether the agency writes each language itself or runs a translation through a tool, and ask to see posts in each language.

For a local business, an agency close by can shoot photos and video on site. Pages for a social media agency in Ghent and a social media agency in Antwerp describe that local work. For campaigns across the whole country, with Google and LinkedIn in the mix, see the page on an advertising agency in Belgium.

What drives the monthly price of a social media agency?

The monthly price of a social media agency follows the workload, so compare offers on the same workload. The factors that move it most are the number of platforms, the number of posts per week, who makes the photos and video, the number of languages, how fast comments and messages must be answered, and whether ads are part of the job. Ad spend is a separate amount that you pay to Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok.

Ask each agency to price the same list: platforms, posts per week, languages, video per month, reply time and ad management. An offer for twelve posts a month in one language is a different job from twelve posts in Dutch and French with two short videos. A price list per task and the factors behind it are worked out in social media management pricing; the ad side for TikTok is in TikTok ads cost.

How do you know after three months whether it works?

Three months is enough to judge the routine and the first ad results, though not to judge brand growth. By then you should see enquiries or sales that your analytics links to social media, a cost per result that the agency explains, and a calendar that runs without you chasing it.

Measure engagement as a percentage of reach, with the engagement rate calculator, rather than counting likes. Compare the first month with the third on the same measures. If the report changes its measures every month, the agency is choosing what looks good. Choosing an agency for SEO or for the whole marketing mix uses other checks, covered in how to choose an SEO agency and how to choose a marketing agency.

Social media agencies in a few lines

Which social media marketing agency in Belgium should I pick?

Pick the agency that writes natively in Dutch and French, shows live ads with enquiries behind them and runs everything from your own ad account. Test it by asking for a current client's calendar and report. A local agency suits a shop or venue that needs photos on site; VBS in Ghent is one option, with social media management and ads under one plan.

What does a social media agency do every month?

A social media agency agrees a content calendar, makes and publishes the posts, answers comments and messages, runs and adjusts the ads, and reports at the end of the month. The report links posts and ads to enquiries or sales. The next month's plan follows from it.

Who should own the ad account?

You should own the ad account, inside your own business portfolio on Meta, with the agency added as a partner. That keeps the history, audiences and pixel data with you. The same goes for your pages on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Is buying followers a problem?

Bought followers are a problem because they do not buy from you and they water down your engagement rate. That rate is the figure that tells you whether posts work, so it stops being useful. An agency that offers follower packages is selling a number, without customers behind it.

How VBS runs social media for clients

VBS in Ghent manages Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube for companies, and runs the ads behind the posts. For Les Terrasses, VBS ran a golf reel as three Meta ads from 13 December 2025 to 24 January 2026, filmed with an external videographer. For Park & Wash, the Meta pixel only fires after consent, with Contact and Lead events, so the ads are measured on enquiries.

VBS fits a company that wants posts and ads tied to its site and measured on enquiries, in Dutch, French or English. VBS does not fit a company that wants follower growth for its own sake or a fixed number of posts without a goal. The service is described on social media management, with the paid side on Facebook and Instagram ads and the B2B side on LinkedIn management. To talk it through, book a call.
